APPROACHING THE SIERRA NEVADA |
ENJOYING THE FREEDOM OF OUR LITTLE SEAT DIESEL HIRE CAR
29th OCTOBER 2013
We zipped out of Valencia in our hire car past miles of oranges and industry. Just short of Grenada we turned off for 15kms of cross country with beautiful views towards the Sierra Nevadas to stay in Guejar Sierra for two nights. We did a great day hike that our host of the B&B put us onto. Into the Sierra Navadas, up through a canyon and back out via some high stuff. The area we hiked and drove through had the Vuelta a EspaƱa come through here last year. Spain's big cycle race. It's the highest roads you can cycle on in all of Europe at 3,300 metres. Europe's most southerly ski field is up there too.
Back 'home' after our big day hiking, I picked a crop of walnuts from our bathroom window. Delicious with zero food miles and excellent with Rioja. Hope they didn't mind the banging on the floor with Anne's sandal as I cracked them.
