MY MOROCCAN REV HEAD MOMENT

AUDI RSQ3 ABOUT TO OPEN UP OUT OF THE CORNER

We took the back road through the mountains to Telouet on our way towards Marrakech because it offered stunning scenery and we had word the roads were ok. I'd earlier seen two shiny blue Audis doing car to car shots against the stunning red Moroccan landscape so when I saw them again on the hill climb I stopped to say hello.

A French crew doing a car review movie for a website, Florian, the cameraman told me what they were up to and kindly sent me these two pics of the car. The car was an Audi RSQ3 which is the Audi Q3 with the RS go fast treatment. It's an ultra-high performance version of the compact SUV with a 2.5-litre turbo five-cylinder engine found in the TTRS coupe.
Apart from looking very smooth on our corner it had a very impressive sound accelerating out of the turn. A flap inside the sports exhaust system opens to amplify the sound when the most aggressive of three settings in the ‘Drive Select’ system (auto, comfort or dynamic) is chosen. It really growled and I have to confess I had a brief moment of rev head envy as the driver rocketed up the road clearly having too much fun.

With the Audi boys roaring around the roads behind us, we continued over the pass to Telouet in our little Dacia hire car. There is a fast crumbling derelict Kasbah there which offers a peculiar glimpse of the melodrama of Moroccan political government and power still within living memory. I quoted that from the Rough Guide but I'm sure it's true.

We took a guide from our accommodation and somewhat predictably he was pretty thin on guiding but we read about it in the guidebook over another tajine dinner.
