KORFOS TO POROS
FRIDAY 6TH SEPT TO MONDAY 9TH SEPT 2013THE LIFE |
Korfos, a nice little
port town by the Med, somewhat reliant on the passing yacht trade. It
must get awful quiet there off season.
We happily anchored there for
two days before pootling down to the island of Poros with a bit of Tuna
trolling in the bay on the way out. There were plenty of fish busting
up the surface, not overly big and not interested in our lures
despite us zig zagging off to each school.
Our time on board
Annecam was drawing to a close. We enjoyed our last get together with
the Alleways, an Aussie family on another boat anchored nearby. We
went ashore for group meals and soaked up the folk music concert on
the dock that night put on by an Athens yacht club which arrived that day, their
35 yachts rafted together en masse in a giant clusterf^#*. We watched a local
fisherman pulling up an octopus as he drifted right next to our boat. We
watched the yacht club flotilla charge off again and we watched the
Alleways thin out just before we did too.
We motor sailed our way
to Poros with the wind only getting good as we arrived at Poros.
Charter yachts do crazy
things. We were closing in behind one as we both came into the cross
hairs of a ferry. We turned 10 degrees to starboard as you do while
the charter yacht veered to port leaving the ferry a gap to go
between us both. The same charter yacht did a 360 in front of us
later when they either had a man overboard or one of their crew
decided to have an impromptu cool off in a busy harbour entrance.
We spent one more night
on Annecam before going ashore to reluctantly resume the land content part of
our travel at an apartment we had reccied the day before. While the
new digs on shore was very comfy and had plenty of hot running water
for showers it didn't make up for the sadness at having to leave
Annecam with all the fun we had experienced with Annette and Campbell
for the previous 12 days. We feel very lucky to have been their
guests and it was another extraordinarily good live aboard sailing school
opportunity for Anne and I to come to grips with a million more points of
sailing. Thanks Campbell, you were so competantly instructive and patiently helpful. What a boat!
That night we had dinner with
Annette and Campbell and Desperate Dave and Sharni at a waterside restaurant with
greek dancing to celebrate Annette and
Campbells fourth wedding anniversary.
