GALAXIDI |
Galaxidi – Itea –
Corinth
Tuesday 3rd Sept –
Thursday 5th September 2013
Galaxidi is another
picturesque Greek port town that it would be easy to spend more time
in.
While the crew of the
four Australian boats relaxed outside a bar overlooking the quay and
yachts, Anne and I walked around the harbour and headland to do a
spot of swimming.
There were shopping
excursions, eating excursions and then the big excursion, we went by
bus up to Delphi and the ancient ruins up there.
Century upon century
upon century of changes of ownership, renovation, technologies,
earthquakes, religions, people and culture have made Delphi an
interesting spot. Delphi has been inhabited since the 14th c. B.C.
With the famous bit in Classical Greek world being during the 8th c.
B.C. When Delphi went viral for the Oracular powers of Pythia, the
priestess who sat on a tripod, inhaled ethylene gasses, and
muttered incomprehensible words that foretold the future.
We had a good little
wander around, mixed with other tourists, saw lots of old rocks and
then had some nice coffee and home made courgette patties while we
waited for the bus back down to the marina in Galaxidi.
Today we headed down
to Corinth with a brief stop at Itea in order to line up for the
Corinth Canal tomorrow.
BUT, the big news is that
Anne and Annette have just realised that they went to the same
primary school at the same time in Perth W.A. for a period of about
three years. It's a small world.
