HIGH IN THE VELEBIT RANGE. LOW IN THE CENTIGRADE RANGE

BREAK OUT THE PUFFA JACKETS!

NIPPY

From the bears of Kuterevo it was a drive up to Zavizan hut in the Velebit National Park for the night. A beautiful, chilly place. Any doubts the season had changed were dispelled here. A combination meteorological station and hiker hut. It was very comfy with wood fire heating, electricity and cold beer.
The next morning the rain and cloud set in at a brisk 6oC. Steve and Jenny strode off bravely to do the 13km hike to Alan Hut while Anne and I did a local short climb and drove the car around to Alan hut to meet Jenny and Steve where we spent the night sheltering from torrential rain. The first real rain since England back in July.

The big highlight of Alan hut apart from the hospitality, good food, wood fire stove and roof over our head was they had a real live Dalmatian dog there in the Velebit Ranges high above the Dalmatian coast. We've been sending postcards back to Cooper, our neighbour's Dalmatian dog and now we have pics as well!

The Dalmatian's name was Roko. His owner called him an unlucky guy. He was in a fight and his tail got infected and had to be amputated only weeks earlier. More recent than that, he was hit by a car whilst intently following a good looking bitch. He was still recovering from that one and a little sore. He was a lovely pooch and reminded us of Cooper, our local Dalmatian back in Oz.
