MURTER-KRKA-SPLIT

SKRADINSKI BUK

 KRKA NATIONAL PARK

4TH OCTOBER 2013

Once we separated Anne and Jenny from their adopted cats, Steve programmed Mrs Garmin for Krka national park. We bought our tickets to the park from the most elaborate glitzy glass construction I've seen in Croatia. Either it was a whole lot of aid money or they make a bomb out of this park. It may be the latter. They charge for everything. They don't miss you on the parking or the toilets either.

The main attraction at the park is Skradinski buk which is an elaborate cascade of waterfalls and pools. Travertine or Calcium carbonate, in fact the largest one in Europe they say. Some brave Northern European types jumped in and swam the pools. From Skradinski buk we went to the other attraction, Roski Slap. A slightly different arrangement of limestone formed pools and dishes with a big impressive set of steps to a lookout. All in all a lovely day out amid natural wonders with good friends. You wouldn't be dead for quids.

After the all the natural wonders, drives in the countryside and hearty walking we split to Split. The route took us through country that endured lots of fighting and destruction during the recent war. Bombed, deserted houses are numerous. Signs on the side of the road warn of land mines. Tourism led recovery though haunted.

In Split it was a strange airbnb arrangement where we were met by a different bloke on each occasion. The apartment was fine but only just. Not the best airbnb booking we've made. In fact, probably our worst. After two nights in one joint, Jenny and Steve headed home and Anne and I moved to another tiny room in the old town that the airbnb guy offered. It was clean, modern, renovated to a budget and slightly overpriced. I didn't mind it but it really irked Anne who felt jammed in. Interesting from a woman who had no probs living in a tiny cabin on a yacht.

Split old town is lovely. We all had a great time wandering, taking in sights, visiting the fish markets, the food markets and walking up narrow cobbled streets. We found some great restaurants all by ourselves too. Apetit and Uje oil bar were fantastic and turned out to be the hot restaurants in trip advisor reviews.
